Sol Pin Pequeño in Sterling Silver

The Sol Pin Pequeño is a sculptural .925 sterling silver sun brooch set with a natural stone, made by hand in our workshop in Taxco, Guerrero, Mexico.

It belongs to Sol, the first collection we ever made. The sun is one of the oldest symbols there is, and Mexico has been drawing it for millennia — here reduced to its essentials, rays radiating from a single polished stone.

The rays are formed rather than cut. We shape them in media caña — a half-round section drawn to a point, the same technique we use for our Sol earrings, pendant and scarf ring. It gives each ray a rounded, dimensional body instead of a flat profile. Our larger Sol pins are made in calado, pierced flat from sheet; this one is formed, which is why the rays catch light along their length instead of across a face.

Wear it on a lapel, a jacket, a scarf, a bag — or the band of a hat.

Care

Silver is a living material and will develop a patina over time. Polish it with a silver cloth to bring back the shine, or leave it darker — we like it both ways. Keep the stone away from perfume and household cleaners. Our care guide has the full detail.

Questions

What's the difference between this and the larger Sol pins? Scale and construction. The Sol Pin Grande and the Spur Pins are cut flat in calado, pierced openwork. This one is formed in media caña, so the rays are rounded and dimensional. Same sun, different hand.

Does it match the Sol earrings and pendant? Yes — they're all formed in media caña, so the rays read identically across the pieces. They were made to be worn together.

Is the stone natural? Yes, all stones are cut by hand by our lapidary in Mexico.
