Sol Pyrite Ring in Sterling Silver

The Sol Pyrite Ring is a sculptural .925 sterling silver ring built around a raw pyrite specimen, made by hand in our workshop in Taxco, Guerrero, Mexico.

It belongs to Sol, the first collection we ever made, and to the sun — a symbol drawn on these lands for millennia.

We leave the pyrite uncut. The specimen keeps its raw crystalline form: the facets, the texture, the metallic flash the mineral makes on its own. Our rays frame it the way light frames a rising sun, and we set each one individually, because no two specimens are the same shape.

The rays are formed rather than cut. We shape them in media caña — a half-round section drawn to a point, the same technique we use for our Sol earrings and pendant. It gives each ray a rounded body instead of a flat profile.

Every ring is different. Not just in color or pattern — the stones vary in size and structure, so the ring you receive is dimensionally its own.

Care

Silver is a living material and will develop a patina over time. Polish it with a silver cloth to bring back the shine, or leave it darker — we like it both ways. Pyrite is iron-based: keep it dry, away from moisture and household cleaners, and it will hold its flash.

Questions

Why is the pyrite raw instead of polished? Because pyrite is more beautiful uncut. Polishing it would erase the crystalline structure that makes it what it is. What you get is a mineral specimen set in silver, not a gemstone.

Will my ring look exactly like the photograph? No, and that's the point. Every pyrite specimen has its own size, structure and brilliance. The photograph shows one ring; yours will be another.

Is pyrite the same as fool's gold? Same mineral. Iron sulfide, with a metallic golden flash that fooled a lot of prospectors. We use it because it's genuinely beautiful next to silver, not because it looks like gold.

Is there a version with a polished stone? Yes. The Sol Ring is the same silhouette with a polished cabochon in jade, lapis lazuli, malachite or black onyx.
